The club began as an Under 18 team in 1918, playing in the Caulfield-Oakleigh-Dandenong Junior Football League. Following the end of the war, the club fielded two teams- an open age side in the Federal District Association and a junior team in the Oakleigh District Junior FA. At the end of 1922, the two teams separated. The seniors now joined the Metropolitan Amateurs (VAFA) while the juniors continued in the ODJFA as an under 21 team. (The Amateurs team continued as a seperate club until the end of the 1962 season when they disbanded).

In 1928 the juniors became an open-age team playing in the Sub Districts FA under the name of Murrumbeena Districts.

The club left the Sub-Districts and joined the Caulfield Oakleigh Dandenong FL, changing its name back to Murrumbeena FC.

Because of the war, the Senior team was dropped and only a junior team played under the name of Murrumbeena Rovers FC.

1 9 4 5   t o   1 9 6 2

The Senior team re-formed, still known as the Rovers until reverting back to Murrumbeena FC in 1949.

1 9 6 3   t o   1 9 8 3

In 1963 the CODFL amalgamated with the Eastern Suburban League to form the South East Suburban Football League. The 'Beenas' win the first flag of this new competition defeating Oakleigh Districts.

1 9 8 4   t o   P r e s e n t

Following financial and other problems, the club dropped back to the third division. Since then, the club has only been in the 1st Division for two seasons (1998 and 99). Murrumbeena gained promotion back into the Southern Football League 1st Division for 2004 after claiming the 2003 2nd Division Premiership.
