"AROUND THE CLUB"

With the finals now on the way Murrumbeena Reserves started and Up and Down day with the great 81 point win over Oakleigh Districts in th first semi final at Springvale on Saturday. The beena finally displayed the type of football most of the us new they had and kept it till the finals. We now continue on towards the reserve premiership that has been missing for so many years. Murrumbeena 14.13.97 Def Oakleigh Districts 2.4.16. Best players were T. Nethersole, S. Dennehy, D. Sicconi, P. Caia, R. White and A. Roberts.

Murrumbeena seniors went into the game very confident after and even journey between the both sides through the year. From the first bounce however things started to look gloomy for the Beena as Oakleigh Districts displayed good running and team play to quickly put the scores on the board and stream away from the Beena. At the end it was a long drawn defeat by 54 points. Murrumbeena 7.12.54 def by Oakleigh Districts 18.9.117. Best players were M. Macdonald, S. Hawking, A. Williamson, M. McCormack, M. Shannon and D. Sortino.

The Beena Lions played there first semi final at Mordialloc against Cheltenham Cockatoos and and were superior from the start in wet slippery conditions. A three goal first quarter set up the game for the Lions, who ran out winners by 36 points to go into the Prelimary Final on Sunday 14th September. Beena Lions 8.2.50 Def Cheltenham Cockatoos 2.2.14.

UP AND COMING EVENTS:

Saturday 13th September 2008 at Springvale. The Premlimary Final, Murrumbeena V either Dingley or Heatherton. Reserves 12.00 noon.

Sunday 14th September 2008 at Mordialloc. Prelimary Final, Beena Lions V Either Hampton or Cheltenham Rosellas at 10am.

With the end of the home and away season now completed, the club would like to say a very special thank you to a group of people who play a very important and vital part of the Murrumbeena Football Club week in and week out.

Cath, Jacquie and Jan who run the canteen, Leanne, Dale, Michelle and Sandy in the Bar, Barry for working the scoreboard and assisting with time keeping, Chris Niclasen and a number of senior players who have contributed in running water each Saturday during the games, Frank and Brian for organising and running the half time meat raffles, Joe Quintal and Bobby Fenton for escorting the umpires each week, Noreen Ormsby the ever reliable time keeper and husband Brian who spends timeless hours assisting at the club with various tasks, and a very special mention to JC, John Coulson who is responable for the production and publication of The Lion, our newsletter. John has been working the newsletter now for a couple of years and as you can see a lot of effort and hours of work goes into The Lion, WELL DONE. On behalf of the Murrumbeena Football Club we would dearly like to say thank you to all the people mentioned for the services they have given through the year. Your efforts have not gone un noticed.
